Day 5 – Thursday: When Grace Washes Dirty Feet
A Jacked Up Holy Week - An Eight Day Devotional
📖 John 13:7 (NET)
“Jesus replied, ‘You do not understand what I am doing now, but you will understand after these things.’”
🧼 Love in the Dirt
We expect royalty to be above us. Untouchable. Distant. But on the night before the cross, Jesus knelt.
He took a towel. Poured water. And began to wash feet. Cracked heels. Calloused toes. Dirt from miles of road. Not exactly a holy moment—until He made it one.
He knew those feet would run. Betray. Deny. Doubt. And He washed them anyway.
🕳️ When Grace Gets Awkward
Peter protested. “You’ll never wash my feet.” And if we’re honest, we get it. Being served makes us uncomfortable—especially when we know how jacked up we are inside.
We’d rather serve than be served. It keeps us in control. It helps us feel worthy. But grace isn’t earned. It’s received.
Letting Jesus wash your feet—your shame, your mistakes, your mess—is vulnerable. But it’s where healing begins.
💧 Kneeling in Your Reality
Foot washing is awkward, intimate, and humbling. And that’s the point. Jesus kneels not because we’re impressive—but because we’re loved.
You don’t need to hide the dust. He already sees it. You don’t need to explain the stink. He kneels anyway.
And if you’ve been too busy scrubbing your own life to let grace in, maybe it’s time to sit down and let the King do the cleansing.
🙏 Reflection Questions:
What part of me feels too dirty or unworthy for Jesus to touch?
Why is it hard for me to receive grace?
What would it look like to let Him kneel before my brokenness?
