Day 6 – Friday: When Love Looks Like Loss
A Jacked Up Holy Week - An Eight Day Devotional
📖 John 19:30 (NET)
“When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, ‘It is completed!’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
⚰️ The Day Love Died… Or So It Seemed
There are moments when the dream dies. The relationship ends. The job collapses. The lie is exposed. The mask falls. And all that’s left is silence.
Good Friday is one of those moments.
We call it “good,” but it didn’t feel good then. It felt like failure. Like loss. Like the end of something beautiful.
The One who healed the sick and silenced storms hung lifeless on a tree. Naked. Beaten. Alone. Mocked.
And then… “It is finished.”
💢 Not a Cry of Defeat
“It is finished” isn’t a cry of surrender—it’s a declaration of victory.
Jesus wasn’t saying “I give up.” He was saying, “I’ve done it. It’s complete.”
The cross wasn’t plan B. It wasn’t a jacked-up detour. It was the plan. Love didn’t lose—it laid itself down.
And in that surrender, grace tore the veil. Shame lost its grip. Sin lost its sting. And death lost its victory.
🎯 What Feels Finished Might Just Be Starting
Maybe there’s something in your life that feels “finished”—a marriage, a dream, a season of purpose. Maybe it looks dead. But don’t bury it just yet.
Good Friday teaches us that God does His best work in the dark. What the world calls over, God calls seed.
So don’t confuse the crucifixion with the conclusion.
🙏 Reflection Questions:
What in my life feels hopeless or finished right now?
How does Jesus’ suffering speak into my pain?
What would it mean to trust God in the darkness?
